Bing Webmaster Tools Setup Checklist

🎯 Before You Start

Your sitemap is already created (using Yoast SEO or WordPress default)
You have a Microsoft account (Outlook, Hotmail, Live.com - or create free)
Know your website's exact URL (with https:// or http://)
Access to your website files OR WordPress admin panel

Step 1: Access Bing Webmaster Tools

Open browser and go to: www.bing.com/webmasters
Click Sign in button (top right)
Login with Microsoft account (or create new free account)
On welcome screen, click Get Started or Add a Site

Step 2: Add Your Website

In "Add a site" field, enter your full website URL
Include https:// or http:// (match your actual site)
Use exact version: with or without www
Click Add button

Example: https://infolifehub.com or https://www.infolifehub.com

Step 3: Verify Website Ownership

Method A: XML File Upload (Easiest)

Download the BingSiteAuth.xml file provided by Bing
Open cPanel → File Manager → public_html folder
Upload the XML file to root directory
Test: Visit yoursite.com/BingSiteAuth.xml in browser
Return to Bing and click Verify

Method B: Meta Tag (Best for WordPress + Yoast)

Copy the meta tag provided by Bing
In WordPress: Go to SEO → General → Webmaster Tools
Paste in Bing verification code field
Click Save Changes
Return to Bing and click Verify

Method C: Import from Google (Super Fast!)

Click "Import from Google Search Console"
Sign in with Google account
Select your website and click Import
Done! Verification and sitemap imported automatically!

Step 4: Submit Your Sitemap

After verification, go to Sitemaps in left sidebar
Find the "Submit a sitemap" field
Enter sitemap URL (see options below)
Click Submit
Verify "Sitemap submitted successfully" message appears

📋 Which Sitemap URL to Use?

Yoast SEO users: sitemap_index.xml
Generic WordPress: sitemap.xml
Custom sitemap: Use your specific filename

Step 5: Configure Settings (Optional but Recommended)

Go to Settings → General
Set Default language (English, Urdu, etc.)
Set Target country (Pakistan, USA, etc.)
Set Preferred URL (www or non-www)
Save all changes

Step 6: Verify Everything Works

Check sitemap status shows "Pending" or "Success"
Visit yoursite.com/sitemap_index.xml to confirm sitemap is accessible
Wait 24-48 hours for initial crawling
Return to check "URLs Discovered" count increases
